Think About it Thursday – Global Blackout

I love this notebook from RayGun. I had a good chuckle when I opened it.

All of the pages inside are blank. Like…I won’t survive a zombie apocalypse.

This notebook inspired this month’s “Think About It Thursday”. If the power went off permanently (more likely than a zombie apocalypse), what would you do?

I’ve had this conversation with my husband many times.

Remember the NBC show “Revolution” from a few years ago? There is a global blackout and the show focuses on the struggle to survive fifteen years after the blackout.

I was obsessed with it.

Here is a trailer:

Did you see the plane fall from the sky, eeeeeek!!!

If we do have a global blackout, I have a plan.

Notice I said “I” have a plan, not “we”. My dear husband has been informed of this plan, but hasn’t signed off on it yet. Usually, because he’s in shock that we’re having this conversation.

Again.

You can never be too prepared, am I right?

The plan is to first gather my children and husband. If it is during the school year and is a school day, my two youngest go to a school super close. No problem getting them home safely. My husband works a mile from home. Easy.

My oldest goes to a school ten miles away. So I will strap on my Asics and run to her and force her to run the almost half marathon back home with me. Hoping adrenaline works in our favor.

Snow. Because you know if there was a global blackout it would inevitably be during the winter months in Iowa.

On second thought, maybe I should just ride a bike to get her, bikes don’t use electricity. Huh.

The plan is always evolving.

Once we’re all safely together, we’ll head to the town (area) where EJ and I grew up. More farmland (because you know, survival). It is a 50-hour walk according to google. Which roughly translates to 20,000 hours with small children.

I haven’t done any research on this at all.

I’ll also be praying we make it safely to our family’s home before people get desperate and start to kill people for food.

But we won’t go there. Maybe in a future TAIT post. 🙂

Have you ever given this scenario any thought?

What would you do if there was a global blackout? For simplicity sake, let’s just say you know this is a permanent situation.

These are the random things I think about. Welcome to my brain. You should be scared. Very scared.

See ya next month for more randomness.

Until Next Time,
Neko
